What time zone am I in?

Press the button and let your browser share your location to see the time zone you are in.

No location? Type a ZIP code, town or address

A street address goes to the Census geocoder to find its ZIP code; a ZIP code or town is answered from this site's own data. Nothing you type is stored.

How it works

This page asks your browser where you are, finds the ZIP code area that point falls inside, and reads the time zone on file for that area. Your browser's own time zone rules then give the abbreviation, the offset from UTC and the local time for today's date, so daylight saving time is counted when it applies.

Your device's clock setting is shown separately, below the answer, because it is a setting and can be wrong: after a flight, behind a VPN, or set by hand. When it disagrees with where you are, the page says so.

Also from the same lookup: your ZIP code, your county and your area code.

Questions

How does this find my time zone?

Your browser tells the page where you are. The page finds the ZIP code area that point is inside and reads the time zone on file for it; the current time and its abbreviation then come from your browser's built-in time zone rules, so daylight saving time is applied for today's date.

Why does my computer show a different time zone?

Your device's clock follows its own time zone setting, which can be wrong after travel, set by hand, or taken from a VPN or work network. The page shows that setting separately, below the answer, and says when it disagrees with where you are.

Which states are in two time zones?

Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee and Texas have ZIP code areas in more than one zone. Arizona is split differently: most of the state keeps Mountain Standard Time all year while the Navajo Nation changes its clocks.

When does daylight saving time start and end?

In the United States it starts at 2 a.m. local time on the second Sunday in March and ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico and the island territories do not change their clocks.

Do you store my location?

No. Your coordinates are sent once, inside the request rather than in its address, to look up the ZIP code areas around you, and they are neither logged nor kept.
